Driving Trip to Malaysia

I have longed for a getaway from Gwendolyn for a break since the beginning of the year, but it didn't happen until now. It's not that I dread to be with her, but sometimes, I need some space, some quiet time or quality time with Raymond, coz we haven't been together by ourselves ever since the Phuket trip! We have planned and planned until we reached a conclusion that we should head to Port Dickson. Why Port Dickson? Just happened that the Batam trip cannot be confirmed and last minute, I saw this promotion in the SAFRA magazine about a new water chalet! We drove there and was disappointed, not at the chalet, but at the "emptiness" of the town.

Desperately looking for food when we arrive evening of 17 November 2006, we only managed to find run-down "coffee shops" and have "home-cook" style dishes...most importantly, this is the only one with a few tables of customers...the others were dead empty!




Conclusion? Since Kuala Lumpur is only an hour's drive away and we haven't been there since December 2002, we've decided to head north for shopping and food in KL on Saturday! Neither of us remembered the way to the food street...with driving experience in the UK, we thought that we can grab a map and arrive at our destination based on instinct! WE DID!!!!!!!

We went shopping in KLCC and found Dora stuff for Lyn Lyn. I adore the variety of offerings there. Even at the same shops, I can see the different items available at the same stores as compared to Singapore. I found the Dora pyjamas at Mothercare, but it's not available in Singapore. The Dora Rainy Day set (or other clothe changing play sets were not availabe in Singapore at all) was found in Isetan (Isetan is listed on the Singapore Exchange)! The Dora VCDs are almost half price (RM14.90 vs SGD12.90)...You may ask, why Enfagrow? Coz it's almost SGD10 cheaper as well...the ornaments were found from a shop with "lacy" items, which I wouldn't want to leave...so pretty!

Shopping was great and after rambling through KLCC, we decided to head to the "Food Street" for our dinner...

Penang Cha Kway Teow, Sambal Kang Kong, Fried Oyster and Curry Stingray...Yummy!

KL was good and we returned to Port Dickson for the night, before we checkout Sunday morning and head south to Melaka! It's along the way to Singapore anyway...and I haven't been there since September 1998! There are more attractions now, with a Night Zoo (which we didn't go) and a few more shopping malls!

On the way to Melaka, I saw some signboard (advert) along the expressway, saying 鸡饭粒...initially, we didn't know what it meant. But when we arrived at the Jonker Walk (the tourist trail), then we saw this long queue at this restaurant, which serves 鸡饭粒. Then we realised what it meant! There are limited dishes on offer, but we tried them all : Chicken rice, Asam Curry Fish and Fried Veggie. Yum Yum! We didn't see that 8 years ago, but we know what to recommend to our friends next time if they visit Melaka!

After a sumptuouse lunch at Melaka and a short shopping trip, we started to head further South to JB for some grocery shopping + Bak Kut Teh (haven't had it for more than 2 years!).

YUM! Dinner was around 6:30pm and we head back home to pick Lyn Lyn...

The fastest speed that Raymond went whilst on the expressway? 170 km/h

The air-con was freezing cold, even when we've set the thermostat at the highest temperature and lowest speed? We need to switch OFF the air-con in the middle of the night to avoid catching cold...
